Tuition Assistance
A direct contribution toward semesterly university fees, sustained across the programme for as long as merit is maintained.
A scholarship dedicated to alumni of St. Joseph's High School Namagunga, stewarding the passage from secondary school into the public universities of Uganda — so that no bright mind is turned back at the gate for want of fees.
The scholarship was founded by Sserunjabwa George who personally knew the weight of the first semester — the quiet arithmetic of tuition, rent, meals, and transport, all arriving at once. From the struggle of fees to the daily cost of simply being present on campus, the journey was marked by resilience and the refusal to yield.
Recognising how steep the first climb can be, she established this scholarship to make the path smoother for those coming behind her.
It is, at its heart, an act of giving back — a stewardship of opportunity that ensures no talented alumnus of St. Joseph's High School Namagunga is held back from their university years by financial hardship. Where she once walked alone, a community now walks together.
The school from which every scholar of this programme is drawn bears the name of St. Joseph — patron of workers, of families, of quiet and faithful provision. The virtues of his house are the virtues the programme hopes to carry forward.
"Ite ad Ioseph" — Go to Joseph. Genesis 41:55 The words once spoken to a hungry Egypt have become, for generations of this school, a quiet instruction: that faithful work and faithful provision belong to the same house.
To provide financial and moral support to alumni of St. Joseph's High School Namagunga pursuing higher education in public universities across Uganda.
A future where every deserving student reaches their full potential — regardless of the means into which they were born.
Support is rendered in four shapes — practical, academic, material, and communal — chosen because each of them is what the founder herself most needed, and did not always have.
A direct contribution toward semesterly university fees, sustained across the programme for as long as merit is maintained.
The instrument of modern scholarship. Every scholar is equipped with a personal machine for coursework, research, and the wider world of learning.
Academic mentorship from those who have walked the road — advice on coursework, career choices, and the small, unspoken skills of university life.
A community of current scholars and alumni of St. Joseph's High School Namagunga — a circle of peers, counsellors, and doors opened by introduction.
The scholarship is competitive and selective. The criteria below are not hurdles but hallmarks — the shape of a candidate we are built to serve.
Answers to what prospective applicants ask most — so the path ahead is as clear as possible before you take the first step.
Any alumnus of St. Joseph's High School Namagunga who has received a confirmed offer of admission to a public university in Uganda. You must also be able to cover your first semester's fees independently and demonstrate genuine financial need.
All public universities in Uganda — including Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Gulu University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Busitema University, and others recognised by the National Council for Higher Education.
Applications open each year in line with the university intake season. To be notified when a new cohort opens, write to us at info@sserunjabwascholarship.com and ask to be placed on the notification list.
The scholarship contributes a meaningful portion of your semesterly tuition fees. The exact amount is reviewed each cycle and calibrated to individual need and the size of the cohort — the goal is always to make a real material difference.
Support continues for the full duration of your degree, provided you maintain a CGPA of at least 3.5 every semester and remain in good standing with the university. There is no upper limit on years of support tied to a single degree programme.
A single difficult semester will be reviewed with context and compassion — life is not always linear. Sustained underperformance, however, may result in a review and possible withdrawal of support. Scholars are encouraged to communicate early if they are struggling.
The scholarship is designed primarily for students entering university for the first time. If you are a continuing student who was unable to apply at entry, please write to us directly — we will consider exceptional circumstances on a case-by-case basis.
Through your written application statement. Describe your household circumstances honestly — existing financial burdens, who else depends on the same income, and what completing your degree would mean for your family. There is no means-test form; we rely on the integrity of what you share.
If you are an alumnus of St. Joseph's High School Namagunga with a place at a Ugandan public university and the will to see it through — your application is welcome, and awaited.
